For the first time from Pune to Belgaum: Onco- Life Center inaugurates PET/ CT scan
Along with the celebration of completing three successful years of onco-life center !!
Pune,8th June 2018: Onco- Life Center will be celebrating their 3rd anniversary along with the inauguration of new PET/CT scan machine for the first time from Pune to Belgaum on 10th June 2018. It’s an advance nuclear imagining technique combine’s positron emission tomography (PET) and CT in to one machine. It reveals information about both structure and function of cells and tissues in the body during single imaging session.
Cancer cells have a higher metabolic rate than noncancerous cells. Because of this high level of chemical activity, cancer cells shown up as bright spots on PET scans. Also Pet scans are not only useful for detecting cancer but also for seeing if the cancer has spread, to keep a check whether the cancer treatment is working and also for checking cancer recurrence.
Mr. Uday Shivajirao Deshmukh Chairman and Managing Director of Onco-Life Center said, “PET Scans reveal areas of decreased blood flow in the heart. This is because healthy heart tissue will take in more of tracer than unhealthy tissue or tissues that has decreased blood flow. Different colors and degrees of brightness on the scan will indicate different levels of tissues function.”
During a PET/ CT scan, the patient is first injected with a glucose solution that contains a very small amount of radioactive material. The substance is absorbed by the particular organs or tissues being examined. The procedure is painless and varies in length, depending on the part of the body that is being evaluated.
“The benefits of this test are usually greater than the risk. This approach can prevent unnecessary rejection of various treatment options through the observation. Thus it is possible for patients to avoid ineffective and toxic treatments and instead get the benefits of an optimized therapy plan.” Concluded Mr Deshmukh.
