PADMAJA KRISHNAN AND THE GOOD LOOM BROUGHT ORGANIC FASHION TO CENTRE STAGE AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2018

Padmaja Krishnan’s lyrical fashion presentation was sheer poetry at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018

Mumbai, 1st February 2018: A Padmaja Krishnan fashion showing for her label ‘Padmaja’ is always an ethereal line of classic garments. Her lyrical collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 called “Afternoon” was a tribute to the radical drawings by Nasreen Mohmedi, the pioneering Indian artist.

Keeping her inspiration firmly in control, Padmaja, a graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, worked around a colour story comprising carbon black, ivory, shades of grey, taupe and rosewood that merged effortlessly into the garments.

Padmaja’s fabrics were specially woven, natural dyed, organic, cotton and linen. Staying away from motifs, Padmaja emphasised line spaces, dashes and created unconventional textures with a million stitches that required long man-hours.

The line of saris were in gentle shades of ecru, grey and ivory, with some colour blocked discreetly and worn with blouses that had either frayed hems or woven shades of fabrics. ‘A’ line midis, long lean dress with pin tuck detailing, asymmetric blouses or dresses and the favoured drop crotch salwars with kurta made a serene summer story. The pleated smocked midi and the one- shoulder batwing kaftan and swirling lehengas with fluid hemlines were a summer offering just right for the rising mercury. The final micro-checked sari was a luxurious look that will be perfect for after-dark glamour.

The designer’s USP has always been in detailing, which she lavished on the creations with pleats, folds, layers, over-sewing and use of controlled folly.

There was a beautiful light and shade effect for the garments that gave them an outstanding appeal but with a hint of innocence.

Embroidered buttons, were the highlight for some of the ensembles that completed the casual women’s wear look.

When it comes to clothes that are almost poetic in form and design, Padmaja Krishnan’s soothing traditional, yet contemporary designs hit all the high points.

FIRST NATIONAL AWARD WINNER GOCOOP PRESENTED THE COLOURFUL GOOD LOOM COLLECTION AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2018

When India’s first online global market place presented its fashion brand, the excitement amongst the audience was expected. GoCoop unveiled its “the good loom” brand at a fabulous Handloom show at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018. It was a collection that evoked the purity of natural fabrics, great weaves and Indian craftsmanship. GoCoop won India’s first National Award for handlooms marketing (e-commerce) for showcasing the best textiles and products from the country.

On the ramp from “the good loom” line were the best fabrics by top master weavers in India. From the city of Banaras came the grand Chanderi saris for women, which unfurled memorable stories of the beautiful textile. The hand spun, hand woven Khadi and cotton were turned into very stylish and contemporary ready-to-wear shirts, trousers, stoles and pyjamas for men. The rainbow of colours and patterns created a dazzling array of comfort wear on the ramp as “the good loom” label ensured that the country’s textile heritage was presented in an unforgettable manner.

The look was very traditional with a modern twist to give the beautiful weaves of India a more contemporary look for the global market.

For lovers of India’s rich fabrics’ collection “the good loom” creations by GoCoop were an amazing offering of style, fabrics, designs and craftsmanship. The look created by Lakmé Makeup Expert, Daniel Bauer, for this show trended on the lines of the ‘nude’ theme for this season. The face was kept completely muted while bringing out the natural radiance using the Lakmé Absolute Skin Natural Hydrating Mousse. The makeup was completed with a side braid, and natural pink and coral lips.

To further promote sustainability Lakmé Fashion Week has gone more Sustainable each season. This season all PET bottles from the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 venue will be collected, and used to make the R | Elan™ GreenGold fabric. (100 per cent fabric from recycled PET bottles), TENCEL™ (one of the world’s most sustainable fibres) is used for central installation and will then get re-used by manufacturer.  All invites made of recycled paper.
